These joists were bricked in tight no air gap and had a fire cut at their ends.

A lot of the old mortar had deteriorated and the joists aren t tight in the pockets. Does current code we are irc here still allow this practice. Any thoughts or suggestions. Align the joist hanger so that the holes match up to the holes in the wall.

When dealing with fire damage to these buildings would you ever go back with new joists bearing in the existing masonry pockets or would you come up with some other sort of connection. Fit the end of the joist into the joist hanger with one narrow edge down so that the hanger fits up and around the two faces. Drive one 1 3 4 inch tapcon style concrete screw through each hole using a cordless drill and a properly sized phillips screw bit tip. The joists span wall to wall and are pocketed into the brick.

If the joists are parallel to the new wall adjust the layout so that the wall is directly under a joist. At present all the floor joists are pocketed into the walls. In my particular application the joists would be supported on one side in the brick joist pockets and on the other side would be attached to a stick framed wall. If the joists run perpendicular to the wall an adjustment should not be necessary.

If you have 3 or 4 inch diameter pipes running through the wall make the wall from 2 x 6 inch boards. Ideally they d probably get remortared but i don t have any way to protect the ends from rot.
